Ah yes, Infrastructure Spending, the great White Knight who will make all our monetary ills go away! It is childlike to see how much support the idea of " Infrastructure Spending" has gotten as a mechanism for Stimulus! Is there any reason why "Infrastructure Spending" be granted this Hallowed Place is being The right mechanism for fiscal measures? And just to think, 12 months ago we were mocking Bridges to Nowhere.

I've had a few good conversations over the last few months centered around this question, and I've spent quite a bit of time thinking about it in the mean time.
I'm certainly nowhere near even a basic understanding of the issues involved, but I think I've reached a tentative breakthrough moment.
Religion can best be understood as a manifestation of a culture. Specifically, religion is what happens when peoples' value system shapes their perception of reality.
This particular topic really deserves several books worth of material. I suppose a few long posts will have to do.

I was especially inspired by Stove's What is Wrong with Our Thoughts? A Neo-Positivist Credo - a short piece which is everywhere and always relevant.
